Today I spent the majority of the lesson on my blog creating a summary of our questionnaire findings in order to create a audience profile for next lesson. This required me to analyse our findings from our questionnaire and conclude on our results.

Summary of Questionnaire Findings

Out of the 42 people that completed our survey 68.4% said in response to the question to the question 'Rank these methods of advertisement from 1-5 by how effective they are in promoting their respective film' that cinema was the most effective. Therefore as a result of the responses it would be most effective for us to advertise our film in the cinema because it would be the most effective means of promoting our film.

Gangster was voted as second to best movie genre by those who completed our survey. We feel that this was largely due to the age range of those who completed our survey. The average age range of those who completed our survey was 14. Therefore we feel that this determined there choice of movie genre because gangster movie are predominately certificate 18. Therefore it is unlikely that the majority of those who completed our survey have watched a wide range of gangster films.   

R'n'B was voted as the most popular music genre. We feel that given this popularity it would be wise to include this music genre in our opening sequence as it will engage the audience. Plus in other gangster films such as get rich or die trying they use this music genre so we feel it will be appropriate to use this in our opening sequence. We are attempting to create a modern gangster film and we feel that using R'n'B music will bring the gangster genre into the 21st century. However, as the survey was  completed by a majority of 14 year olds we need to think about other music genres that will engage an older audience.

There appears to be a common expectation from people who watch gangster films. Judging by our survey result it seems to be that most would expect to see, to some extent, violence.

These are the questions I contributed to the group;

• What hobbies do you partake in? 
• How often do you go to the cinema? - Once a month, Twice a month, Three times a month (if circle if more/less)
• What is your preferred film genre? - Action, Comedy, Horror, Romantic, Gagster, Other
• How do you access the media? - Internet, TV, Magazines, Newspapers, Other
• What methods of advertisement are most effective for you in promoting films? 

We will be sending the survey out to ten people each via email in order to give us an understanding of our potential target audiences opinion.

SWOT analysis of Treatment

Strengths
Our initial idea was deem suitable for the gangster genre. The opening sequence was interesting and would encourage the audience to continue to watch the film in order to find out how the character became the leader of the mafia.
The idea of keeping the characters identity a mystery until it is revealed at the end was good as it engaged the audience .

Weaknesses
After re-watching our Treatment it is clear to see that there was a poor distribution of roles when presenting to the class. Josh May lead the presentation whilst mine and Dean Landers input was minimal.

Opportunities
Further research into alternative filming locations because filming in London may be limited because of security concerns.
Consider a suitable actor to play the role of the character.
Develop a strong script of dialogue for the narrative in order to ensure that our opening sequence is well understood by the audience.
Ensure that everyone in the group is asserted a clear individual role, to ensure that the work load is fairly divided between the group.

Threats
The main threat of our treatment was that our opening sequence relied heavily on the narrative to give the audience an understanding of what was, therefore it is important that we develop a strong script. Further threats are imposed on the planned location for filming, when filming in London it is important to consider security concerns related to filming in public places.

Plot:                                                   

Tell a story of a guy who was once poor and lonely individual and shows how he grows to become a notorious mafia leader in charge of supplying the streets of London with drugs.

The opening scene will show him at the beginning of his life, powerless, lonely and penniless. We will then show a smart suited man walk the streets of London with power and respect, we will then notice that this is the man shown at the beginning of the opening scene when we are shown his refection of a black cab.

Genre Convention Research: Assessment Feedback

In groups of four we were given the task of peer assessing one an others homework. The homework task was to come up with three ideas for opening sequences of a gangster movie and to come up with the five common characteristics that relate to gangster genre and one additional characteristics that contradict the common gangster genre. 

The five common characteristics were:

Violence 

Crime 

Trust

A characteristic that would contradict the traditional gangster genre would be a female mafia leader. 

After assessing the five common characteristics of the gangster genre I developed three initial ideas for an opening sequence. The peer assessment that i received found that my first opening sequence was the most appropriate. 

This opening sequence was:

Opening sequence was to be set in a dark office with low levels of lighting and in black and white. The first camera shot will be of a close up of a cigarette in a glass astray. As the dialogue begins the camera will begin a reverse creep until the character pick up the cigarette. The camera will follow the hand of the character back to he face of the character. As the smoke from the cigarette is dispersed the face of the character is finally revealed.

                      

Evaluation of prelim task

Individual roles within the Preliminary task

There was four members within our group and each was asserted a set role.

Dean Landers focused on the acting within our prelim task, he was the only member of our group that featured in our prelim recording. As well this, myself and Dean Landers worked on the plan for our prelim, coming up with the initial idea behind the story and also planning the positioning and the sequence of the camera shots and angles.  Dean Landers also contributed his ideas throughout the editing process, coming up with special effects to feature in our prelim such as slow-motion. 

Josh May took the lead throughout the editing process, his knowledge and understanding of editing lead the group to assert Josh May the role of chief editor as his skills far exceeded that of anyone else in our group. Josh May created the rough cut of our prelim task and focused on putting into place transitions between shots. 

Ryan Kent along side myself, focused on the filming of our prelim task. Ryan Kent filmed several shots including an other the shoulder shot that is featured in the prelim task.

My main role during the prelim task was filming, i took the lead role within the filming of the prelim, recording shots such as the over the shoulder shot, point of view shot and panning shots shown during the prelim. I also made contributions during the editing of the prelim, such as developing the non-digetic sound heard in the prelim. As well as the i also worked on the initial plan for the prelim task. Myself and Dean Landers developed a plan to follow during our prelim task.

Guy: Weird, that happened to me as well.

Girl: We've got a lot in common.

The article uses a range of statics to show how the perception of Muslims in Britain is changing, they are being seen as more of a threat in society.
